How Tri Metals collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use our website or contact us.
Last updated: 31 August 20261. Who we are
Tri Metals operates precious-metals services through its Witbank and Nelspruit branches. For purposes of South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), Tri Metals is the responsible party for personal information it determines how and why to process.
2. Information we collect
We may collect your name, contact details, branch preference, enquiry and message content, photographs or descriptions of items, transaction and payment information, delivery or collection details, identification and compliance information where required, and records of communications with us.
When you use the website, technical information may also be collected, including IP address, browser and device information, pages viewed, approximate location, referral source and interactions with website features.
3. How we collect information
We collect information directly from you when you contact a branch, request a quote, submit an item for assessment, buy or sell a product, or otherwise communicate with us. We also receive limited technical and usage information through website technologies and service providers.
4. Why we use it
We process personal information to respond to enquiries; assess items; prepare and administer quotes and transactions; arrange payment, collection or delivery; prevent fraud; meet recordkeeping and legal obligations; secure and improve our services; understand website usage; and protect our rights and those of customers.
Providing enquiry information is voluntary, but we may be unable to respond or complete a transaction without information reasonably required for that purpose.
5. Analytics, cookies and external platforms
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the website. Google may process device, browser, usage and approximate location information through cookies or similar technologies. You can restrict cookies through your browser settings, although parts of the website may not work as intended.
When you choose WhatsApp, you leave this website and communicate through a service operated by Meta. WhatsApp and Meta process information under their own terms and privacy policies. Social-media links and external price-data services are similarly governed by their providers.
6. Sharing and cross-border processing
We may share information with service providers supporting hosting, analytics, communications, payment, professional advice, security, delivery and business administration; with authorities where legally required; or with parties involved in a legitimate business reorganisation. Some providers may process information outside South Africa. We take reasonable steps to use providers and arrangements offering appropriate protection.
7. Retention and security
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, applicable legal or accounting requirements, dispute resolution and fraud prevention. We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may ask whether we hold your personal information, request access or correction, ask for deletion where permitted, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing depends on consent, or object to direct marketing. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
You may also lodge a complaint with South Africa's Information Regulator through inforegulator.org.za.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our services, providers or legal obligations change. The latest version and effective date will be published on this page.
